WHAT WE DO
We are a young company but built with many decades of experience providing special effects.
Pyrotechnic and complex engineering effects are our core specialties alongside other practical effects ranging from consistent atmos to suit every location to large bespoke engieering builds.
We have worked on a wide variety of projects from motion pictures, large band 3 productions, live events, and with various organisations to deliver a wide variety of effects and builds.
Bespoke builds & design engineering
We are well placed to manufacture bespoke builds, our in house engineering facility has CNC waterjet, milling, turning, welding, 3D printing and most other capabilities.
NorthStar will work closely and directly with your production, art, props and other inputs to produce the desired outcome.
Action vehicles
We have a selection of vehicles in house and have access to a wide range of modern, classic, vintage veteran and older vehicles for immediate deployment.
We own both full sized and miniature steam engines as well as various other vehicles available to be used.
Equipment hire
We have a wide range of equipment which can be provided to suit the needs of the production.
We use well recognised equiment from established manufacturers, we also develop our own equipment to suit specific needs.
Sustainability
Our sister company UKMR is a recycling business that has designed machinery for recycling and recovering various materials. UK Metal Refining LLP processes both cable and other metals and plastics. We have experience in managing waste streams and this is very helpful with reducing our footprint.
We are very conscious of the impact projects have and have experience delivering effects with maximum visual effect and minimal waste.
We design our effects to have the minimal enviromental impact and if possible utilise materials well suited to recycling or better still re-use. This saves both money for the production and reduces waste generated.
We consider all aspects of the effect and have options suitable for most environments.

We believe in our crew, they are the most important part of making our effects happen. They have exceptional knowledge and varied experience - each brings a lot to the team.
We invest in training our team, we have an inclusive culture of sharing information and feeding back improvement so we all benefit from each others experiences.
We do not take a wage cut from our crew, all rates are paid directly without deduction to them. We think this is important and the fairest way of doing business. The rate that appears on your invoice is paid directly to them with no cut.
Safety
We take safety extremely seriously and specialise in the design of effects to be correctly suited to the environment they are in. Our risk management is integrated to every effect and we have extensive experience managing effect and associated risks in a wide variety of settings.
We have integrated engineering design
Our background is a mix of pyrotechnics, live events, complex effect rigs, builds and engineering design. We have a good depth of experience and knowledge coupled with creativity and enthusiasm to make your vision reality - this in house ability also reduces your cost and increases the possibilities available.
Because we have a depth of in house ability and excellent working relationships with external manufacturers we can create new effects easily and can work with you to bring what you envisage to life.

We have test facilities and storage at our farm near Ashbourne in Derbyshire and explosives test facilities & storage near Manchester.
We have shoot crew based across the UK and we can comfortably service productions anywhere in the UK
